The fifth World Conference on Sinology is to be held on November 10-12, 2016 at Renmin University of China, Beijing. The theme of this conference is: 'Sinologies in Comparative Context: Tradition and Innovation'.

The World Conference on Sinology is co-sponsored by Confucius Headquarters/ Hanban and Renmin University of China. The conference has had notable academic impact in the field of sinology and China studies, and become a major platform linking Chinese academic circles and overseas Sinology/ China Studies circles. We have now successfully held four World Conferences on Sinology, with past themes including: "Dialogue of Civilizations and a Harmonious World" (2007);"Sinology and Cross-cultural Communication" (2009); "Sinology and the World Today" (2012); "Exchange and Learning between 'East' and 'West': 400 Years in Retrospect" (2014).

This year the Conference will address the pluralities of Sinology in the context of the current plurality of cultures. The panel topics will feature interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives. Scholars will present their research methods and perspectives from different regional, cultural, and traditional contexts, bridging the past and future, the spiritual and the mundane, the Chinese and the non-Chinese through in-depth discussion.

The International Office, the School of Liberal Arts and the Institute for the Promotion of Chinese Language and Culture of Renmin University of China will collaborate in hosting participants from China and other parts of the world.
