Roger T. Ames is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the University of Hawai’i, Humanities Chair Professor at Peking University and Academic Director of the Berggruen Research Center. His research focuses on Chinese philosophy and culture, and comparative philosophy. Among his numerous publications are Thinking Through Confucius (1987) , Thinking from the Han: Self, Truth, and Transcendence in Chinese and Western Culture (1997), and The Democracy of the Dead: Confucius, Dewey, and the Hope for Democracy in China (1998).
