Lei Shi obtained a PhD in Sociology from Renmin University of China. He is an assistant professor at the School of Sociology and Population Studies of RUC. His research interests include social stratification and mobility, marriage and family. He has published many papers in different journals including  Sociological Studies, Population Studies, Youth Studies .
