ZHANG Junjun is an Associate Researcher at Shanghai Normal University. She holds a Ph.D. in Art from Peking University and an M.A. in Comparative Literature from Beijing Language and Culture University. Her primary research interest is the history of early Chinese cinema. She has published 18 academic articles in both core and non-core journals such as Literary and Art Studies, Contemporary Cinema, Journal of Beijing Film Academy. She has also contributed to a major project funded by the National Social Science Fund of China in the field of arts studies. Her representative monograph is From Foreign Vaudeville to Local Film Industry: A Study on the Origins of Chinese Cinema (1897-1921). Notable articles include “Revisiting and Reassessing: A Reconsideration of the Filming and Historical Significance of Yan Ruisheng” and “Consumption and Enlightenment: An Analysis of Film Advertisements in the Early Years of Cinema’s Introduction (1897-1907).” She has also presented at academic events such as the symposium on Female Characters in Mainstream Film and Television Works, where she discussed the differences and similarities in the portrayals of female scientists in Medal of the Republic and Hidden Figures.
