TONG Shijun is Chancellor of New York University (NYU) Shanghai (since 2020), Professor of Philosophy with East China Normal University (ECNU, since 1994) and Foreign Member of the Norske Videnskaps-Akademi (since 2011).

Among his publications are Dialectics of Modernization (2000), How to Do Things with “the Fact of Reason” (2024) and the Chinese translation of Jürgen Habermas’ s Faktizität und Geltung (2003), among others.
