Andrea Bréard is Vice President of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) , Germany, and Chair ofthe Department of Sinology, making her the first vice president in FAU's history with expertise in both Sinology and the history of science.

She leads the university' s strategic educational planning, driving curriculum reform, innovations in digital pedagogy, and interdisciplinary educational program(particularly emphasizing the integration of humanities and natural sciences). Based in the Department of Sinology, she advances research on theChinese history of science and coordinates international collaborations such as Globalization of Knowledge: China and Europe(2023–2026). She spearheaded FAU' s 2030Education Blueprint, iinterdisciplinary curriculum design. Additionally, she established a tripartite educational partnership framework between FAU, Peking University, and the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO).

Her current research focuses on the interplay between 20th-century Chinese mathematics education and science policy, as well as the circulation of scientific knowledge along the Silk Road. She has published four monographs in four different languages, as well as almost 100 publications in journals and anthologies in Chinese Studies and the history of science.
