CHO Wonhee, a historian who specializes in the Mongol Empire(13th–14th century) and currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Yonsei University. “He earned his Ph.D. in East Asian History from Yale University. Cho has conducted research at the Jangseogak Archives and served as a professor in the Global Korean Studies program at the Academy of Korean Studies. He was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he contributed to the Mongol Empire Project by translating and annotating biographies from the Yuanshi (History of the Yuan). He later continued his postdoctoral research at NYU Shanghai, where he organized a discussion panel for the Center for Global Asia’s Annual Conference. He is also engaged in digital humanities, using digital tools in historical research. His main research interests include the religious policies of the Mongol Empire, the relationship between empire and religion, and comparative empire studies. His representative monograph is Empire and Religion: Politics of Difference and Negotiation in the Mongol Empire (1206–1368). A notable article of his is “Beyond the Han and Non-Han Conflicts: A Network Analysis of the Early Fourteenth Century Yuan Officials.”
