Zhiwu Chen is currently the Chair Professor of Finance and Ming De Professor of Finance under the Cheng Yu-Tung Professorship at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Business and Economics School. He also serves as Director of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences and Director of the Quantitative History. Previously, he was a professor of finance and economics at Yale University for 18 years (1999–2017), and held honorary professorships positions at Peking University’s School of Economics and Tsinghua University’s School of Social Sciences. His research spans financial theory, financial sociology, economic history, quantitative history, emerging markets, the Chinese economy, and capital markets. His representative works include The Logic of Finance, Why Are the Chinese Hardworking but Not Rich?, and 24 Lessons on Wealth.
