Gentz, Natascha is the Chair of Chinese studies at the University of Edinburgh, Director of Confucius Institutes for Scotland, and Chair Professor in Asian Studies in the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures,
Main research fields include cultural exchanges between China and the West in texts and media, modern Chinese literature and drama.
Her publications include two monographs: one on contemporary Chinese political drama and the other one the history of modern Chinese journalism, both within the context of cross-cultural interactions during the colonial era. She has also edited two volumes, one focus on global knowledge transfer in Late Qing China and the other on how global media are shaping cultural identities today. Additionally, she has contributed to two volumes on transculturality, covering both Late Imperial China and Modern China. Her work also includes journal articles and book chapters. Furthermore, she has co-curated two exhibition catalogues and translated a collection of works by the Nobel Laureate Gao Xingjian, which may include novels and short stories.
