Javier Cha is currently Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities in the Department of History at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), where he also serves as Deputy Director of the Humanities and Digital Technologies program. As a digital historian and medievalist specializing in the intellectual and cultural history of East Asia, his research interests include translating Classical Chinese texts into English, applying graph database technologies to historical research, and leading experimental humanities projects that address the challenges posed by big data and artificial intelligence. He founded and operated the Big Data Studies Lab (BDSL), where his team explores the impact of big data and AI on the humanities. His representative work includes Big Data Studies: The Humanities in Uncharted Waters (2023).
