Nathan W. Hill is a Professor of Chinese Studies at Trinity College Dublin and an expert in historical linguistics, with a focus on Sino-Tibetan languages. His research covers Old Chinese phonology, Tibetan philology, and linguistic reconstruction. He has published extensively on the history and evolution of these languages and has held academic positions at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London and elsewhere, including having directed a Confucius Institute.
His representative works include The Historical Phonology of Tibetan, Burmese, and Chinese (2019, Cambridge), A Lexicon of Tibetan Verb Stems as Reported by the Grammatical Tradition (2010, Bavarian Academy of Sciences), and Old Tibetan Inscriptions, co-authored with Kazushi Iwao (2009, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies). His edited books include Evidential Systems of Tibetan Languages, with Lauren Gawne (2017, De Gruyter Mouton).
