Richard Trappl is currently the Austrian Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna (Uva), Vice Dean of the Faculty of East Asian Studies, and University Representative for China Affairs at the University of Vienna. He also serves as an Honorary Professor at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), and is a board member of both the International Association for Chinese Language Teaching and the World Conference on Sinology. His main research areas include Chinese classical and modern literature, translation and terminology studies, and cross-cultural studies between China and the West. His major works include Literary Theories of the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties and Early Theories of Fiction, among others.
