Hong Tao is currently the Assistant to the General Manager of Zhonghua Book Company, General Manager of Gulian (Beijing) Digital Media Technology Co., Ltd., where he holds the position of Senior Editor. He also serves as the head of the Key Laboratory of Ancient Books Digitization and Knowledge Engineering, a science and technology and standards key laboratory in the publishing industry under the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, as well as the head of the Digital Literature Branch of the Chinese Historical Documents Research Society.  

He has long been engaged in research and publication work related to the digitization of ancient books. He has presided over numerous national key digitization planning projects for ancient books, including the "Fundamental Historical Records of China Knowledge Base"—a key electronic publication project under the 12th Five-Year Plan, Package 16 of the "Chinese Database Project"—a major cultural industry promotion project under the 12th Five-Year Plan; and the "Resource Platform for the Collation and Publication of Ancient Chinese Books," a key electronic publication project under the 13th Five-Year Plan.  

Additionally, he presided over "General Resource Database of Chinese Sinology," a listed fund-raising project of China Publishing Group, and served as the person in charge of the construction and operation of the national platform system for digitizing resources of ancient books. Due to his outstanding contributions, Hong Tao was selected for the "2022 Publishing Convergence Development Talent Cultivation Program" by the National Radio and Television Administration.
