World Conference on Sinology:Opening Ceremony

After the success of the first World Conference on Sinology in 2007, Renmin University of China and Hanban worked together and organized the Second World Conference on Sinology in October 2009.  The theme of this conference is “Sinology and Cross-Cultural Communication”, highlighted with two famous sayings from two ancient traditions: “Tong Gui Er Shu Tu (By different paths all will come to the same place)” from Zhouyi, and “The Way is one and the same” from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus.

About seventy overseas scholars and one hundred domestic scholars attended the three-day World Conference on Sinology 2009.  Some distinguished guests included Dr. Michael Loewe (University of Cambridge), Dr. Hans Küng (University of Tubingen), Dr. Bonnie McDougall (University of Edinburgh), Dr. Marian J.
