TONG Zhihui is a professor at the School of Agriculture and Rural Development of Renmin University of China, deputy director of the Rural Development Department, director of the Rural Governance Research Center of Renmin University of China, and deputy director of the Research Center for Social Transformation and the Rule of Law at the National Institute of Development and Strategy of Renmin University of China. He is also a member of the National Expert Committee on Grassroots Power and Community Building of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and a director of the China Water Conservancy History Research Society. His research focuses on rural governance, rural politics, China in the 1950s, rural cooperative system. His major publications are Village Committee Elections and Village Politics, A New Approach to Peasant Cooperation: Constructing a "Trinity" Comprehensive Cooperative System, Understanding Rural Governance by the Reform of the Collective Property Rights System: Based on a Review of Existing Literature, The Changes and Future Development of the Rural Collective Economy in the Past 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up.
