国家图书馆在中外文化交流中的作用
在当代，中国的发展需要世界，世界的发展需要中国。在世界经济愈发一体化，文化和而不同、多元共生的趋势下，不同国家、民族与文化的相互了解，必不可免，而且也十分重要。国际汉学的产生，最早来自国外学者对中国传统文化的兴趣。随着中国的发展，在世界上扮演的角色越来越重要，汉学的内涵也发生了重要的变化，由传统文化的研究，演变为对中国当代政治、经济、文化的研究与传统文化的研究并重。因此在汉学的基础之上又有了中国学的概念。其实二者是名异实同。中国政府应该关注国际汉学的发展，重视其研究成果。不仅重视国际汉学对传统文化的研究，更要重视其对中国当代的研究。中国的学术界应该加强对国际汉学的研究，增强相互的交流与合作。就此而言，中国人民大学主办的两届国际汉学大会为此做出了贡献。中国国家图书馆是国家立法与决策的重要文献提供和咨询机构，同时也担负着对外文化交流的任务。为了适应以上工作，2009年设置了中国学文献研究中心，其目的就是要收集海内外中国学的文献和信息，为国家立法决策提供参考，为学界提供研究咨询，为中外中国学的学者搭建交流与合作的平台。中国国家图书馆中国学文献研究中心愿与包括中国人民大学在内的国内外高等院校和科研机构合作，为其中国学研究提供文献信息咨询服务，共同促进国际汉学的发展。

The Role of the National Library in Cultural Communication between China and Foreign Nations
In the modern era the development of China needs the world, and the development of the world needs China. As the world economy is gradually becoming one entity, the cultures are different but in mutual harmony, and within the current tendency of pluralism the nations, peoples and cultures of many lands come to know each other; this is unavoidable and even very important. The emergence of international sinology was in the beginning linked to a group of foreign scholars who showed interest for Chinese culture. Following the development of China and its increasing importance for the world, the contents of sinology also underwent significant changes. Originally sinology was the research of traditional Chinese culture, but now it is attributing equal importance to the study of modern and contemporary Chinese politics, economy and culture. Therefore on the basis of sinology there appeared the concept of China studies (Zhongguo xue), but in fact these are only two different names for the same thing. The Chinese government should pay attention to the development of international sinology and respect the results of these studies. We should not only respect the studies of international sinology concerning the traditional culture, we should even more respect the studies about modern China. The Chinese academic circles should double their efforts to study international sinology, and they should enforce mutual exchange and cooperation. The two big conferences on international sinology held by the Renmin University of China have made a good contribution in this field. The National Library of China is an important resource center for the national policy makers, and it also has the task of promoting cultural exchange with the outside world. In order to respond to the work mentioned above, we have established a Center for the Study of Chinese Texts, and the purpose of this center is to collect papers and information about China studies in China and abroad. Thus we can provide reference materials for the national policy makers and study resources for the scholars, and we can set up a platform for the exchange between Chinese and foreign scholars. The Center for the Study of Chinese Texts of the National Library of China has the intention to cooperate with universities and academic institutions in China and abroad, including the Renmin University of China. We can provide texts and information concerning China studies and we may therefore propel the development of international China studies.
