Professor Yang Huilin Lectured in University of Glasgow as the "2010 Robertson Fellow " 

From 15th to 21st November 2010, Professor Yang Huilin of Renmin University of China was resident in the School of Critical Studies of the University of Glasgow as Robertson Fellow and Lecturer in Theology and Religious Studies. On 18th November, Professor Yang gave a public Lecture in the University as the Robertson lecture for 2010, entitled “Interdisciplinary Studies Between Religion and Literature in China.” The lecture was warmly received by an audience of academic staff and postgraduate students.

The following days was largely taken up with a seminar entitled “Political Afterlives of Biblical Figures: Between East and West. A Conversation with Professor Yang Huilin.” Professor Yang engaged in responsive conversations with Glasgow Faculty members and research students, including Professor Yvonne Sherwood, Dr Ward Blanton and Professor David Jasper. Publication of the lecture and seminar papers in both English and Chinese is anticipated.

During his visit Professor Yang had conversations with many people in Glasgow, including Professor Nigel Leask, Head of the School of Critical Studies and Regius Professor of English Literature; Professor Graham Caie, Vice Principal and Clerk of Senate; Professor Noel Peacock, Marshall Professor of French Language and Literature who lectured in Renmin University in 2010; Professor John Caughie, Coordinator for the research and grant application in humanities; Dr Andrew Hass from Stirling University, Chief Editor of Literature and Theology. In the discussion, both sides expressed strong wish to have further cooperation and more exchange programs. A possible plan of exchanging one post doctoral researcher from each university has been scheduled. Besides, the arrangement of a further research seminar in Renmin in September 2011 was discussed, which would involve publications such as a special issue of Literature and Theology.
