National Hanban holds "Symposium on Setting Up Confucius Institutes" in Xiamen

August 10-13 ,2008, the National Hanban held a ‘Symposium on Setting Up Confucius Institutes’ at Xiamen University. More than 70 experts and scholars from 30 institutes attended, including the National Hanban, the State Information Office, various schools and provincial education departments.

The conference was chaired by Deputy Director of the Hanban, Zhao Guocheng, with Hanban Director Xu Lin first giving an introduction to recent work at the Hanban and the Confucius Institute Headquarters and introducing the theme of this symposium – strategic thinking on the international promotion of Chinese, and then presenting a progress report. Pro Vice-Chancellor of Renmin University and Deputy Director of the Institute for the Promotion of Chinese Language and Culture, Chen Yulu, and Dean of the School of Arts and Deputy Director of the Institute for the Promotion of Chinese Language and Culture, Professor Yang Huilin attended the symposium and each gave keynote addresses.
