Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) Holds Symposium for Volunteer Teachers

On June 10 and 12, 2009 volunteer teachers who had finished their teaching in Mongolia and Germany attended the symposiums held in Xiyuan Hotel and the Hanban Headquarters. Mr. Xu Lin, Directro of Hanban, Mr. Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director of Hanban, Mr. Xue Hualing, Head of Volunteer Teachers Center, Mr. Liu Xiuyan and Chen Qijia from IPCLC participated in the symposium.

The symposium focused on the achievements and the challenges the volunteers had encountered in their services. The volunteers were invited to share their thoughts and experiences on the role of Chinese Teaching in enhancing the mutual relation between the two countries, the situation of Chinese teaching in those countries, the problems they had faced in teaching Chinese, and their suggestions to the future development of teaching Chinese in these two countries. Other topics such as the selection, training, and management of the volunteers and the preferential policy to the volunteers after they come back to China were also discussed. The volunteers actively spoke out and shared many touching stories. The leaders of Hanban promised that they would keep cooperating with IPCLC to work out a report on the volunteers so that the problems that appeared in the volunteers’ work might be solved and they could provide a better service and prepare more talented volunteers to promote Chinese language and culture internationally.
