The Consultative Meeting for the Second World Conference on Sinology Is Held

On July 9th, 2009, the Consultative Meeting for the 2nd World Conference on Sinology was held in the Mingde Building, Renmin University of China. Ms. Xue Huangbai, Vice President of Renmin University, presided at the meeting. The meeting invited some domestic and international scholars including Prof. Geng Sheng, Prof. Huang Zhuoyue, Prof. Li Xueqin, Prof. Meng Hua, Prof. Yan Shaodang, Prof. Wolfgang Kubin, Prof. Roberto Ribeiro and Prof. Birgit Linder. Mr. Wang Yongli, Deputy Director of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), together with three other officials of Hanban, also attended the consultative meeting. In addition, on behalf of Renmin University and IPCLC, Prof. Yang Huilin, Prof. Sun Yu, Prof. Wang Jiaxin, Mr. Liu Xiuyan and staff members from IPCLC were present.

At the meeting, scholars and officials were involved in a heated discussion on the preparatory work of the Second World Conference on Sinology. All the professors affirmed the success of the First World Conference on Sinology in 2007 and offered many specific and helpful suggestions and opinions concerning the theme, panel topics, roundtable meeting, and the list of invitees for the Conference in 2009. Mr. Wang Yongli, on behalf of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), expressed the strong interest and confidence of Hanban in supporting this Conference. Prof. Yang Huilin, on behalf of the preparatory committee, summarized the advice of the scholars and expressed the gratitude to the scholars for their valuable ideas. The preparatory committee would further develop these ideas and make necessary adjustments on themes and panel topics so that the preparatory work may be better organized.
